The Architect's Sketchbook
State Library of New South Wales

'The Architect's Sketchbook' portrayed different styles of Australian architecture, and featured architects ranging from William Hardy Wilson and Leslie Wilkinson to Harry Seidler and Alec Tzannes.

The exhibition compared the traditional, earthbound house with lighter and more abstract versions of the Australian house by contemporary architects such as Glenn Murcutt. In contrast to the bound sketchbooks, Murcutt's pencil sketches were suspended in a sequence demonstrating his creative process, the pages seeming to unfold themselves.

" It is so rare to come across an exhibition which mirrors our surroundings with such thought and beauty."
(Cerentha Harris, The Sydney Morning Herald, 1 May 1998)
